PROJECT U.S.E. RECEIVES SUPPORT FOR TRAIL MAINTENANCE PROJECTS THROUGH ATHLETIC BREWING COMPANY TWO FOR THE TRAILS GRANT

Newark, NJ – November 7, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

————-

Project U.S.E. is proud to announce that we are part of an international group of recipients for Athletic Brewing Company’s Two for the Trails grant program, focused on projects to preserve and conserve outdoor spaces.  As a result of the grant funding, Project U.S.E. was able to conduct two volunteer days on September 24th and October 22nd focused on trail maintenance projects at our Wildcat Mountain Wilderness Center, located within Wawayanda State Park in Northern New Jersey.

The trail maintenance projects will help support Project U.S.E.’s mission of providing equitable access to outdoor and experiential education programs for all, particularly youth participants who are from communities with limited access to those types of transformative experiences.  This year has seen a big increase in the number of schools and community based organizations seeking outdoor education programs for their students, so being able to maintain trails for those participants and the public allows for continued use and enjoyment throughout the busy Fall season.

The project was also supported by a partnership with the staff at Wawayanda State Park, including Park Superintendent Jessica Kruegel.  Project U.S.E. was able to coordinate with park staff and volunteer trail stewards to identify trails and other areas most in need of maintenance and coordinate work efforts by the volunteers on both working days.

Project U.S.E. plans to continue and expand this partnership to offer additional days of volunteer service focused on trail maintenance in 2023, both at our Wildcat Mountain Wilderness Center and other parks and green spaces through the City of Newark and the Greater Newark metro area.  To learn more about the Two for the Trails grant program and view a map with all of the projects supported, please visit the following link:
